Most of the work ends up out of sight
Once the slate is installed, the membrane, batten setting-out and junction work sit underneath. That is why this project page includes the in-progress stages.
Each stage is photographed clearly, helping homeowners understand the preparation and detailing beneath the finished roof covering.
Survey and record
The original tiled covering, roof geometry and existing roof windows are photographed before the renewal progresses.
Strip and protect
The old covering is removed and a new breathable membrane forms the weathering layer beneath the final roof covering.
Set out battens
Timber battens are laid out across the pitches and carefully formed around windows, valleys and junctions.
Complete in slate
The final natural slate covering creates the finished roof surface, with roof-window and valley details integrated into the layout.
